“Rep. [Last Name], as your constituent, I’m writing today to thank you for cosponsoring the SHINE for Autumn Act, H.R. 5012 and for including this comprehensive, lifesaving bill in the recent Subcommittee on Health hearing on ‘Legislative Proposals to Support Patients and Caregivers’. I really appreciated hearing Committee Members acknowledge that we have a serious problem when it comes to stillbirth in this country and how SHINE serves as a solution. With increased awareness, better data, enhanced education, and more research, we can finally begin to address the U.S. stillbirth crisis and start saving more babies' lives! Stillbirth rates have remained unchanged for over 30 years, these efforts are much needed and long overdue! My family, alongside countless other bereaved families, hope to see the SHINE for Autumn Act included in the next public health markup. Thank you again for your support and leadership.”

Hello- I am a constituent of yours writing today to urge you to co-sponsor the bipartisan and bicameral Stillbirth Health Improvement and Education for Autumn Act, H.R. 5012. The bill aims to address the US stillbirth crisis, which tragically accounts for the deaths of over 21,000 babies every year. SHINE would focus on preventing stillbirths by taking critical steps to invest in improved data collection, education, awareness, and research. The comprehensive SHINE for Autumn Act will mark the beginning of a longer-term solution towards the prevention and reduction of stillbirths in the United States. There’s no time to waste, we must do more to protect families in our great state and nationwide! We need your leadership on SHINE–I hope we can count on your support! Thank you!

Why is outreach so important right now?

On February 14, 2024, the bipartisan SHINE for Autumn Act, H.R. 5012, was included in a healthcare hearing in the Energy & Commerce Committee.  This long awaited next step committee action was a MAJOR MILESTONE for SHINE.

Click here to learn more about the federal legislative process and the steps bills need to go through in order to become law.

The next crucial step in the legislative process for SHINE is to get the bill included in the next public health markup, something we can’t do without YOU! Consistent calls, messages and tweets are very important. This could be something you do daily (ex: call, message, tweet, call, message, call, message, etc.)

There’s no time to waste, there are only a few weeks that Congress is in session over the next few months, so we need to work double time to get the bill further along, closer to the finish line, where SHINE gets passed and signed into law!
